i got sick of the fact last night that i haven't been able to do a single piece this entire break. so i decided to do a piece from start to finish no matter what. the result was that i stayed up until about 5 in the morning. hooray. oh well, more stuff is in the works.

so yeah, this is the awesome peter lorre in an equally awesome movie "m". i suggest you go see it if you haven't. good stuff in that there movie. this is the first piece i've done without the help of illustrator in a while and i realize now why i gave up cleaning up lineart in photoshop (it takes me too damn long). pen and ink, photoshop cs, and an assload of determination.

That's terrifying, but now i'm curious about the movie. I recognize the guy, even if I don't know who he is, so you've got the likeness down.

And goddamn, I can't imagine how you DO get lines clean in photoshop. I have up on PS a while ago since I have no patience for it o_o

The only movie I've seen of Peter Lorre is Casablanca.

I think that this piece looks very complete and unified because you've treated the background in a very similar style to the figure, also the background receeds quite nicely allowing the figure to pop out. Very nice man i could imagine this as a magazine article illustration or something....which is good.

he's peter lorre! one of the coolest actors of the first half of the 20th century. if you've seen a lot of old looney tunes cartoons, you've more than likely seen him caricatured.

as for the lines, it's a long and grueling process of scanning and refining with the brush and eraser tools. it makes me cry.
